Many systems are heading towards joining networked systems such as manufacturing systems, energy systems, transportation systems, logistic systems and power systems. Various types of optimisation and scheduling problems are involved in networked systems. Although a few methods have been proposed to handle such problems in the past, more advanced methodological /theory studies are still needed due to the intelligence and efficiency requirements of networked systems today.

 

Swarm intelligence-based methods such as particle swarm optimisation or genetic algorithms have been widely used to handle complex optimisation and scheduling problems in various applications, and have proven effective. Thus, the use of swarm intelligence -based methods to address optimisation and scheduling problems in networked systems could prove promising.

 

This special issue therefore invites both experts and newcomers to investigate swarm intelligence-based optimisation and scheduling in networked systems, with the aim of presenting and comparing researchers' ideas concerning swarm intelligence and networked systems.

 

We welcome rigorous methodological /theory papers on swarm intelligence-based optimisation and scheduling for network systems, and application papers that have a significant degree of modelling or methodological novelty in some application area of network systems.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper has been completely rewritten and if appropriate written permissions have been obtained from any copyright holders of the original paper).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process.
