1. Aims of the Special Issue:

Under the contemporary background of Industry 4.0, the manufacturing and service industries are increasingly adopting intelligent equipment and smart system for efficiency and robustness. Smart manufacturing industry is the material basis of intelligent industrial body, improving product adapting ability and competitiveness in the dynamically changing market with the goal of low consumption, clean and flexible production. Meanwhile, it also brings a variety of complexities and diversities in manufacturing systems.

For better handling the problem, many memetic algorithms have been successfully applied to the classical manufacturing problems and the generalized problems as well as the practical systems. Researches and engineering application indicate that the learnable memetic algorithm behaves a good capability of iterating and optimizing in solving manufacturing problems with high complexity, large scale and strong constraints. Thus, this special issue aims to address the state-of-the-art of the learnable memetic algorithm researches that satisfies the demands of smart manufacturing systems.

2. Scope of the Special Issue

We invite authors to submit scientific papers with development or application of memetic algorithms in terms of smart manufacturing systems. Submissions of scientific results from experts in academia and industry worldwide are strongly encouraged. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Research review on the memetic algorithms or smart manufacturing systems;

Definition and formulation of novel problem from smart manufacturing systems;

Benchmark problem research of smart manufacturing systems;

Memetic algorithm for manufacturing resource planning;

Memetic algorithm for supply chain design and optimization;

Memetic algorithm for green manufacturing;

Memetic algorithm for automatic manufacturing systems;

Memetic algorithm for unmanned manufacturing systems;

Multi-objective optimization algorithm for smart manufacturing systems;

Dynamic optimization algorithm for smart manufacturing systems;

Uncertain optimization algorithm for smart manufacturing systems;

Memetic algorithm for manufacturing in practical systems.

3. Submission Guidelines:

All papers must be original and have not been published, submitted and/or are currently under review elsewhere. Manuscripts should be submitted through the publisher's online system, Elsevier Editorial System (EES) at http://ees.elsevier.com/caie/. Please follow the instructions described in the "Guide for Authors", given on the main page of EES website. Please make sure you select "Special Issue" as Article Type and "Memetic algorithm for smart manufacturing systems" as Section/Category. In preparing their manuscript, authors are asked to closely follow the "Instructions to Authors". Submissions will be reviewed according to C&IE's rigorous standards and procedures through double-blind peer review by at least two qualified reviewers. Accepted papers become the property of C&IE's publisher, Elsevier.
